HYS Multipurpose Field Complex

Holden Youth Soccer League, Inc.

Holden Youth Soccer League, Inc. (HYS) is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1979. HYS has been proudly serving the families of Holden since 1967. Currently, we serve up to nine-hundred youths annually from Holden and the surrounding towns. HYS provides year-round program opportunities for ages U6 thru U18 (high school), utilizing an astonishing 5,200 outdoor field-hours over a sixteen week period per year during the Fall and Spring soccer seasons. In addition to the direct programs we run, we also raise $3,000+ in scholarship money annually in support of one or more graduating seniors from the Wachusett region. Moreover, in an effort to support the local community and economy, we employ local children as referees and field liners throughout the year.

We have a long and successful history of working with the Town of Holden, the Wachusett Regional School District, and local community organizations. We also work regularly with the Holden Department of Recreation and numerous other sports organizations to provide the children of Holden with healthy and competitive athletic options. We make sure to schedule our season around key community events (e.g. Jake Bratkon Fundraiser, Mountview Kids in the Community, Pumpkin Patch, etc.), and we have continually made donations of equipment to worthy non-profit organizations like the Be Like Brit Foundation and provided soccer balls to children in countries such as Iraq. We have also made it a priority to be ever-respectful to the neighbors whose homes abut our fields and those of our corporate partners, including Mountview School, Inner Tite, and the Holden Light Department. We ensure that our players, our coaches, and our fans are considerate of and respectful to all of the people and property with whom we come into contact.

Dilemma

One of the key issues HYS faces in running a successful program is the lack of sufficient field space in the Town of Holden. HYS competes for field space with multiple youth programs, including Pop Warner Football, Flag Football, Lacrosse, Field Hockey and Softball. Complicating this situation even further is that our largest field space, Mount View Middle School, will be rendered unusable in the spring of 2014 to make room for the construction of a new middle school. Regrettably, this will immediately cause a 60% decrease in HYS's usable field capacity, rendering it nearly impossible for HYS to service all of the children who wish to participate in our programs.

Vision

Holden Youth Soccer's vision is to create a state of the art multi-purpose field complex in Holden that will consist of two new regulation soccer/lacrosse/football/fieldhockey fields on a 12-acre parcel of land on Bullard Street abutting Mayo School. This state-of-the-art field complex will include synthetic turf fields, a field house for players and coaches, public restrooms, a concessions building, and ample parking. Our goal is to begin construction on the project in the spring of 2014, but doing so will require significant financial investments and partnerships with individuals and businesses within the community.

Multi-Purpose Use & Community Access

As part of our vision we intend to create the space such that it will support multiple activities and programs for the residents of Holden and the surrounding towns. For instance, we envision hosting community events like local fundraisers (e.g. Josh Thibodeau Memorial Soccer Tournament and the annual Pumpkin Patch, etc.), as well as providing additional field space for other local youth sports organizations as needed. Of course, the additional parking as part of the plan will assist Mayo School during some of its larger events.

Total project cost

At $4,000,000 the total project cost to construct such a facility is not insignificant, but HYS submits to you that the total cost to the community and to the children of not doing the project is even more significant. We owe it to our community and our children to act now.
